Transition Your summer Wardrobe Staples To Fall

Transition Your summer Wardrobe Staples To Fall

September is always a tricky month to dress for in South Florida because it’s technically not summer…but it still feels like it. While everyone up north starts geeking out over PSLs, cashmere sweaters, and the season’s new ‘IT’ boot, Miamians are still rocking our linen dresses and basket bags – because, we’re sweating!

If, like me, you’re experiencing Fall fashion envy, I’ll let you in on a little stylist secret: shop your closet. You likely already own classic seasonal pieces like denim, leather, boots and hats. By using those seasonal accents to update a summer look, you can indulge your sartorial FOMO without blowing your entire budget on a new fall wardrobe.

In partnership with Palm Beach boutique Born2Dress, I re-styled three of the Summer’s hottest trends into Fall-ready outfits. Watch this story come to life as seen on NBC 6 in the Mix.

Neon Matching Set

No need to turn to the dark side this fall season, because fluorescent hues are still having a moment. To take this lime yellow cropped top & skort set (yes, it’s a skort!) from summer to fall, I layered the top over a lightweight knit mockneck. A white baker boy cap and nude booties allude to cooler temps without forcing the fall vibes. (Pro tip: Nude booties also create the illusion of longer legs.)

Lime neon set is the perfect outfit to transition into fall.

Floral Kimono

Extend the life of the trusty floral print kimono/beach coverup you wore all summer long by pairing it with your favorite pair of dark wash skinny jeans and a black bodysuit. Another option? If your kimono has a button front (like this one,) you can also style it as a top by buttoning it to the waist and pairing with leather shorts and booties.

Floral Kimono can be worn as a dress or coverup.

Linen Crop Top

Ah, the classic white linen crop top. If you’re like me, you have an extensive collection in your wardrobe. I mean, can you ever go wrong with a crisp white linen top? (The answer is no.) In this case, the shirred sleeves and tortoise shell buttons have me swooning. That “no white after Labor Day” rubbish need not apply here. I enjoy wearing my white tops year round, and going into the cooler seasons my favorite way to wear them is teamed with (faux) leather. With a slight high-rise fit and a coordinating tortoise buckle belt, these Born2Dress faux leather shorts are the perfect match. Throw on a pair of black sock booties and a beret for extra Fall feels.
